Uzbekistan to develop its own water resources strategy
Deputy PM Jamshid Kuchkarov discussed with academician Vladimir Kvint the development of a new strategy of Uzbekistan for water resources until 2030 on the example of the Kuzbass strategy.
On September 5, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan – Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov held a meeting with representatives of the Russian delegation headed by Vladimir Kvint, Doctor of Economics, Professor of Political Economy, Gazeta.uz reported.
The parties discussed the issues of rational use and protection of water resources, development of measures for efficient use of water resources, as well as the introduction of wastewater from the facilities of the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine into the system of centralized treatment facilities.
Vladimir Kvint noted that the issue of saving water resources is included among the five most important priorities in the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy.
It is planned to determine the main strategic directions in the field of water management by the end of January. Two working groups will be created for each priority direction: in Uzbekistan and at the Center for Strategic Studies of Moscow State University. The ultimate goal of the document is to eliminate the water shortage in Uzbekistan and improve the quality of fresh water, he said.
In early October, a three-day seminar for senior management is planned, where the strategy methodology will be explained in detail.
The participants of the meeting exchanged opinions on the importance of efficient distribution of water resources in housing and communal economy, agriculture and industry. For the proper use of water resources, Jamshid Kuchkarov and Vladimir Kvint agreed to develop an alternative strategy for Uzbekistan’s water resources until 2030 using the example of the Kuznetsk coal basin (Kuzbass).
