WB approves allocation of $800 million to support development policy in Uzbekistan
The World Bank will provide financial assistance to the government on special preferential terms.
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved an operation to support development policy in Uzbekistan. This type of operation is a special financial instrument of the Bank to support socio-economic reforms in various countries of the world.
The new World Bank operation aims to support key government priorities, including reducing state dominance in important sectors such as agriculture, rail transport, chemicals and energy. Appropriate measures will allow the private sector to more actively participate in the development of these industries.
This operation will also help strengthen socio-legal protection of vulnerable groups and address issues related to climate change and environmental protection.
As part of the operation, the World Bank will provide financial support to the government in the form of loans amounting to US$800 million on special concessional terms.
