Kuylik wholesale market in Tashkent closed for reconstruction
Sellers will be able to move to another complex for free – for example, Food City or Index.
The reconstruction of the wholesale market for agricultural products in Kuylik is beginning, the press service of Tashkent city administration reported.
As the capital’s administration noted, due to lack of space, products supplied to the market are randomly stored in adjacent areas, including on the banks of the Chirchik River. Over 600 trucks are unloaded here every day, which leads to traffic jams on the access roads.
During the reconstruction, entrepreneurs are invited to move to other shopping complexes – for example, Food City or Tashkent Index. All amenities have been created for them at the new locations, the message emphasizes.
Services related to relocation will be provided free of charge. In addition, sellers will receive a rent waiver for new retail outlets for up to three months.
The Food City and Tashkent Index complexes will provide work for 144 employees of the market, which is closing for reconstruction. Free buses will be launched for the population from the Kuylik block to the market with further transfer to public transport.
In June 2022, the capital’s Council approved the seizure of part of the land allocated for the Kuylik market to expand the overpass. The administration clarified that the decision does not provide for the complete withdrawal of the territory of the complex.
