The initiative, discussed during a recent meeting between the Deputy Governor of Tashkent region, Sh. Mahmudov, and representatives from Qatar's Protocol Capital Group and the Korea Expressway Corporation, aims to drastically reduce travel time and upgrade local infrastructure.

The project involves the reconstruction of a 71-kilometer stretch of the 4R12 Bektemir–Chirchik–Gazalkent–Charvak highway, specifically covering the section from the 6th to the 77th kilometer. Under the current plans, the road surface will be upgraded to high-standard asphalt concrete. Once the 52-kilometer-long toll segment is operational, the journey from Tashkent to Charvak is expected to take just 35 minutes, a significant improvement from the current travel time of 1 hour 20 minutes.

During the negotiations, officials and international partners addressed the technical and investment aspects of the development. The reconstruction is intended to meet modern safety and efficiency requirements, with a total implementation period estimated at three years. By introducing a toll system, the region hopes to improve transport capacity while ensuring long-term maintenance of the road quality.

Beyond the convenience for commuters, the administration anticipates that the new highway will alleviate heavy traffic congestion and prevent frequent bottlenecks on the route. The project is also seen as a strategic driver for the region’s economy, particularly for the Charvak tourism zone. Improved accessibility is expected to increase tourist arrivals, creating new opportunities for local service providers and small businesses.
