Uzbekistan significantly increased imports of Russian agricultural products

At the end of last year, Uzbekistan increased the import of Russian agricultural products by a quarter, Forbes Russia reports, citing the assessment of INFOLine-Analyst General Director Ivan Fedyakov.

According to Agroexport, in 2023, wheat, milk powder, lamb, peas, barley, corn and pork showed the largest increase in exports. Deliveries of peas, barley and corn have more than doubled in 11 months. Next year, record grain supplies of 65 million tons are predicted.

According to data as of December 3, Uzbekistan was in the top ten in terms of imports of Russian agricultural products.

Last year, 87% of agricultural exports went to countries that did not impose sanctions on Russia. Thus, supplies to China increased by 58%, India increased imports from the Russian Federation by 56%, Kazakhstan – by 25%, Egypt – by 19%.

In addition, Uzbekistan entered the top three importers of dairy products from Russia, second only to China and Kazakhstan. The increase in import supplies was facilitated by a significant weakening of the Russian ruble.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in January-November last year, food imports amounted to $3.15 billion (an increase of 3.4%), of which a third came from grains. Sugar and confectionery products were imported for $511 million (-3.5%), coffee, tea, cocoa and spices – for $344 million (+24%).
