Transport operators currently use paper permits for international road freight transport to the two countries. The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan said the relevant government agencies are working to establish an online permit exchange system and expected to launch the necessary electronic platforms by the end of this year.
“The transition to the E-Permit system is not a decision that Uzbekistan can make unilaterally,” the Ministry of Transport said.
The move requires agreements between the competent authorities of each country and the mutual recognition of electronic permits. The authorities must also integrate their respective systems and test the mechanisms for electronic data exchange.
Uzbekistan has been gradually expanding the use of its E-Permit system for international road transport. Digital permit exchanges are currently in place with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey and China.
The E-Permit system was also recently launched between Uzbekistan and Georgia. The Ministry of Transport said Uzbekistan now exchanges electronic permits with seven countries.
