Citizens attempting to smuggle diamonds worth $145,000 into Uzbekistan detained at Tashkent airport
Both citizens arrived in the country from India.

According to the press service of the State Customs Committee, a passenger arriving from Delhi (India) was recently examined at Tashkent International Airport. Diamonds weighing 281 carats were found in the passenger’s coat pocket.
According to preliminary estimates, the total value of diamonds not declared by the passenger during customs control exceeds 873 million soums.
During the inspection of the luggage of another passenger arriving from India, 57 diamonds of various sizes were discovered.
According to preliminary estimates, the cost of these precious stones is 942 million soums.
It is noted that in 2023, customs authorities prevented 394 cases of illegal import of goods, including 163 kg of jewelry totaling 32.4 billion soums.
