President congratulates the people of Uzbekistan on Nawruz holiday

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday spoke at a gala event dedicated to the Navruz holiday at the Humo Arena palace in Tashkent. The event was supposed to take place in the Yangi Uzbekistan park, but due to weather conditions the venue was changed.

“Today, with the rains, the earth will be filled with life-giving moisture, which means abundance and prosperity will come to homes. And we all accept this with gratitude.

With the change of seasons, wonderful transformations occur everywhere. A new day is coming, a new time is coming, the breath of new life is felt. Nature awakens, the heart is filled with joy.

Respect for the honor and dignity of a person as the highest value, ensuring his vital interests, social protection, supporting needy segments of the population, caring for every compatriot, regardless of nation, language and religion, are becoming the basis of our activities,” the president emphasized.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Nawruz calls for “preserving the world around us, first of all the earth, water, flora and fauna, clean air, treating our native nature with filial love,” and in Uzbekistan “colossal work is being carried out to meet this noble call”.

He compared Nawruz with youth – “spring in a person’s life” and noted the successes of the country’s youth – “the generation of New Uzbekistan” – in various fields, in particular in sports.

Separately, the President addressed grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov (pictured), who recently became one of the four strongest chess players in the world, having won the Prague International Tournament ahead of schedule. He also noted the achievements of girls in the field of sports.

Youth, like entrepreneurship, “is characterized by a constant search, initiative, desire for renewal and self-expression,” the president continued. Calling business “a decisive force not only in the economy, but also in social life,” he assured that “even greater opportunities for the development of the business environment” will be created in the country.

Entrepreneurship and self-employment development programs are aimed at “making New Uzbekistan one of the most favorable and attractive states for entrepreneurship and business”.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev called the main goal “the effective use of personal lands, providing their owners with the necessary funds and resources, assistance in finding a market for products, establishing mini-productions in households and mahallas, expanding the range of services.”

“Across the country, 5.5 million households have 510 thousand hectares at their disposal, kindly note – 510 thousand hectares of household land. This is enormous wealth and colossal opportunities that have not yet been fully exploited,” the president said.

“In the conditions of Uzbekistan, a person who effectively uses such opportunities and works conscientiously lives in prosperity and well-being,” he added.

“Over the past two years, we have achieved a reduction in the poverty level in Uzbekistan from 17% to 11%,” the president said. He noted that by using the capabilities of household plots and households, this figure can be reduced to single digits.

“Entrepreneurship and, in particular, work on one’s own land, educates a person physically and spiritually, especially young people, teaches them to live, relying on their own strengths, capabilities and potential. I want to emphasize: our state will always support such active people,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

He assigned the leading role in this to the mahalla as a “unique institution of civil society”. “Therefore, support for the mahalla and its further development will constantly be in the spotlight. After all, mahalla is a stronghold of friendship and kindness. Mahalla is the mirror of the soul of our creator people,” the president noted.

At a time when the situation in the world is increasingly aggravated, “Nawruz serves such a noble goal as strengthening peace and cooperation between peoples and nations on the planet,” the president said.
