Detainee dies in DIA building, Ombudsman investigating the incident
According to preliminary information, the drunken man, who was placed in the drunk tank by the prophylactic inspector, hanged himself on the iron fence and died on the spot. The prosecutor’s office has started an investigation into the situation.
In the Chortok district of Namangan region, a citizen died in the DIA drunk tank. The case was investigated under the Ombudsman supervision.
It was reported that on April 7, 2024, at around 20:00, the spouse of the deceased I.U. reported to the prophylactic inspector of the Chortok district DIA that her husband came home drunk and was quarreling.
The inspector studied the complaint on the spot and took the deceased to the central hospital located in Yangikurgan district. After the formalization of the relevant documents, the deceased was transferred to the drunk tank at 21:58.
On the night of April 8 at 00:45, the deceased hanged himself by the neck inside the jail cell and died on the spot.
“According to the preliminary report of the Yangikurgan inter-district division of the Namangan Branch of the Republic Forensic Medical Expertise Scientific and Practical Center submitted to the Ombudsman, U.I.’s death occurred as a result of “mechanical asphyxia caused by compression of the neck area, acute cardiovascular and respiratory failure”. No injuries were found on his body other than strangulation in the neck,” the Ombudsman said.
It was added that the prosecutor’s office is currently investigating the case.
