Uzbekistan plans to establish lithium mining in Akhangaran district

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to develop the Nurlikon lithium mine in the Akhangaran district, Tashkent region. The press secretary of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Azamat Akabirov, spoke about this in an article for Infozakon.

The lithium content in reserves is more than 123 thousand tons. Nurlikon, as stated in the article, is not inferior to similar deposits in China and the USA.

The material states that the Uzbekistan 2030 strategy provides for geological exploration work aimed at increasing hydrocarbon reserves, modernizing and digitalizing the industry over an area of 60 thousand square meters, as well as attracting foreign investors.

The article also notes that there is large untapped potential for important minerals for industry. In particular, 32 types of such fossils have been discovered in the country.

“A trillion UZS are allocated annually to the domestic geological industry. As a result of the implementation of targeted programs, last year the volume of production in the mining industry reached almost $11 billion,” the author emphasizes.

It should be recalled that the intention to mine lithium in Uzbekistan was announced in 2023 at “Innoprom. Central Asia”. It was emphasized that the ministry considers the development of the industry of technological metals, which are in demand by industry as part of the transition to low-carbon technologies and green energy, to be a promising direction for the republic.
