Supreme Court reports sharp increase in traffic violation convictions and imprisonment
One-third of the offenders have been sentenced to imprisonment.
In 2023, 3,325 individuals were convicted of crimes under Article 266 of the Criminal Code (violations of traffic safety rules or rules for the use of vehicles), according to Aziz Abidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.
According to the report, out of those convicted, 635 were sentenced to imprisonment, and 2,690 received non-custodial sentences.
In the first half of 2024, 1,601 individuals were convicted, of whom 551 were sentenced to imprisonment and 1,050 received non-custodial sentences.
