Investigation launched after man jumps from police vehicle and dies in Tashkent region
He sustained internal and external head injuries, abrasions, a broken nose, other bodily injuries, and was found to be intoxicated.
A citizen who jumped out of a police vehicle in the Okkurgan district of the Tashkent region sustained injuries and died in the hospital, according to a report from the Tashkent Regional Prosecutor's Office.
It was noted that on the night of July 26, T.M., a resident of the "Hamid Olimjon" neighborhood in the Okkurgan district, was reported by residents for disturbing public order while intoxicated at a car wash in the "Koshtepa" neighborhood.
In response to the call, officers of the Internal Affairs Department (IAD) arrived and decided to transport him in a service vehicle to a sobering-up station at the Buka District Medical Association until the effects of his intoxication wore off.
While seated in the back of the vehicle, T.M. reportedly attempted to escape by forcing the door open with his shoulder and throwing himself onto the ground. According to the Buka District Medical Association, he sustained internal and external head injuries, abrasions, a broken nose, other bodily injuries, and was confirmed to be intoxicated.
T.M. was taken to the Bekobod District Central Hospital for emergency surgery but, despite medical interventions, he passed away.
The Okkurgan District Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code, and an internal investigation has been initiated into the actions of the police officers involved. The investigation is currently ongoing.
