Japanese Prime Minister cancels his visit to Uzbekistan
Fumio Kishida canceled his planned visit to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia, scheduled for August 9-12, due to a severe earthquake and tsunami threat in his country.
According to a report from Kyodo, this decision is connected with a warning issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency about the potential for a powerful earthquake and tsunami in the country.
Kishida announced the cancellation during a press conference held on Friday. He was supposed to participate in the Japan-Central Asia Summit in Astana.
On Thursday, August 8, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Japan's southwestern Miyazaki Prefecture.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the tremors were recorded at a depth of 30 km.
The Japanese government also issued a tsunami warning for the Kochi and Miyazaki prefectures.
