Uzbekistan implements comprehensive strategies to prevent monkeypox spread amid WHO emergency declaration

Uzbekistan is taking measures to detect and prevent the spread of monkeypox among the population, according to the press service of the Committee for Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health.

The following urgent measures have been implemented:

— A reserve of beds and necessary medications for hospitalization in infectious disease hospitals has been created;
— A procedure has been established for medical monitoring of those who have come into contact with an infected person for 21 days;
— Increased vigilance of sanitary control specialists at international airports, railway, and road border crossings to prevent the entry and spread of the disease from external sources;
— Enhanced training for specialists based on methodological guidelines on the etiology, clinic, epidemiology, and prevention of monkeypox.

Additionally, a reserve of test diagnostics is being established for laboratory detection of the disease.

It is worth noting that on August 14, the WHO declared a state of emergency due to a new wave of the Clade 1b strain of monkeypox spreading in Africa.

Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. The disease spreads through contact with infected individuals.

Typical symptoms of monkeypox include rash, fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, sore throat, general weakness, and swollen lymph nodes.

Most people recover completely, but some may experience severe forms of the disease.
