Akfa University responds to Competition Committee's statement

According to the report of the committee, in January 2022, the university announced the admission of students for the 2022/2023 academic year, including Commercial Law. At the same time, according to the Committee's information, this program was not included in the license granting the right to carry out activities in the field of non-state educational services granted to the university.

Despite this, students were admitted to study by paying tuition fees ranging from 12.5 million to 25 million UZS. The total amount for 7 applied students is 167.5 million UZS.

In August 2023, students were offered to temporarily continue the next 2023-2024 academic year in a hybrid form or to study in the International Business Education program, due to the fact that they were not given a license to teach in the field of Commercial Law.

Most of the students rejected this offer and some agreed to study in other fields of study. However, the university has not yet returned the money paid, the committee said. The university was ordered to recalculate the questionnaires of the seven named students and other students.

On September 5, the CAU issued a statement explaining the current situation.

According to the report, in fact, in the 2022/2023 academic year, this university admitted applicants to the Faculty of Commercial Law without having the appropriate license for this type of educational activity.

"As soon as this situation was discovered, the university administration immediately informed the students and their parents. Students who expressed their desire were offered to continue their studies in another direction of the university, as well as measures were taken to return the money paid to those who abandoned their studies. "Students who chose to continue their studies did not get their money back, because their right to continue their education was recognized by the university and they continue to study in another faculty," the report said.

"To date, more than 20 students who applied to the university have been refunded their money. If we dwell on the issue considered by the special commission of the Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights on the complaints of several students, we would like to inform you that they have not received any requests for the return of money. Otherwise, payments would have been made to them in accordance with the established internal rules," the university said.

The CAU announced that it has immediately accepted the decision of the Competition Committee for implementation and is returning the money of former students.

"Central Asian University operates with complete transparency and professionalism within the framework of the law, as well as is always ready to take responsibility for violations committed in its activities," the university stressed, urging students to contact the university itself for any contradictions, ambiguities and violations of the law.
