Kara-Suu border crossing between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan reopens after 14 years closure
The Kara-Suu border customs post, located in Andijan region near the border with Kyrgyzstan, has reopened after a 14-year hiatus.
On September 12, a formal ceremony was held to reopen the Kara-Suu border customs post in the Kurgontepa district of Andijan region.
According to the Customs Committee, the border crossing was closed 14 years ago. Its reopening was made possible following an agreement between the leaders of both countries.
The border customs post spans over 3 hectares and can handle the passage of more than 12,000 people per day. Travelers will mainly pass through enclosed structures at the post.
Previously, to travel from Osh region to Jalal-Abad region in Kyrgyzstan, a distance of 120 kilometers had to be covered. Now, the distance has been reduced to 101 kilometers, with only 19 kilometers of transit through Uzbekistan territory.
On the same day, the "Uchkorgon" checkpoint in Namangan region will also be opened.
For information, starting from September 1, 2023, citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan can cross the border between the two countries using an ID card.
