Border authorities intercept drone carrying opium from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan’s border officers have thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the Amu Darya River from Afghanistan using an unmanned aerial vehicle, seizing more than two kilograms of opium.
The operation was carried out in Surkhandarya region by Border Troops in cooperation with the internal affairs authorities.
According to investigators, unidentified individuals on the Afghan side of the border attempted to transport drugs into Uzbekistan by attaching the narcotics to a drone and flying it across the Amu Darya.
The smuggling attempt was detected during an operational search operation, and officers intercepted the drone before the drugs could be delivered.
Authorities seized 2 kilograms and 32 grams of opium attached to the unmanned aircraft. The narcotics have been confiscated as evidence.
A criminal case has been opened, and investigative actions are underway.
