The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev introduced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and technological development among CIS member countries during the CIS summit held in Moscow on October 8. The summit, chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin, was attended by leaders from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.
The discussions focused on key areas such as security, economic collaboration, and the advancement of digital technologies across the CIS. President Mirziyoyev praised Russia's leadership within the CIS and expressed support for ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity, address contemporary global challenges, and deepen economic ties among member states.
During the summit, Mirziyoyev proposed that Uzbekistan host two major events in 2025: a session of the CIS Economic Council and an Innovation Development Forum. These events are set to take place in Tashkent as part of the "Innoprom" exhibition, with the goal of fostering innovation and furthering economic partnerships within the CIS.
In addition to economic collaboration, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of developing digital technologies, creative industries, and green energy across the region. He also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and proposed holding a conference on AI in the historic city of Samarkand.
Beyond the economic and technological sectors, the Uzbek president advocated for stronger cultural ties among CIS nations. He proposed organizing "Days of Culture" to celebrate the cultural heritage of CIS member states, as well as boosting cooperation in healthcare, education, the arts, and sports.
