Freedom House report: Internet freedom in Uzbekistan among the lowest worldwide
Uzbekistan has been listed among the countries with the lowest levels of internet freedom, according to a new report published by the international human rights organization Freedom House. The annual “Freedom on the Net” report covers the period from June 2023 to May 2024.

The report assessed internet freedom in 72 countries, classifying them into three categories: free, partially free, and not free. Uzbekistan scored 27 out of 100, placing it in the "not free" category. Other nations in this category include Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Russia, China, Iran, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, Venezuela, and Vietnam. Notably, China and Myanmar were singled out as having the worst internet freedom environments in the world.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Iceland and Estonia were recognized as global leaders in internet freedom. Other countries in the "free" category include Armenia, France, Canada, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
The report highlights that global internet freedom has been steadily declining for the past 14 years. Among the key reasons for this decline are increasing government interference in elections and growing repression against individuals for expressing their opinions online.
According to the report, in 2023, at least 43 countries saw people attacked or killed for being active online or voicing their opinions on the internet.
