President Mirziyoyev calls for immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid in Middle East conflict
The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has urged for an immediate ceasefire in the escalating Israel-Palestine conflict, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to affected civilians. Speaking at the BRICS+ summit, Mirziyoyev expressed deep concern over the growing violence and the resulting humanitarian crisis, particularly the innocent lives lost, including children. "No political goals can justify the deaths of innocent children," he stated, condemning the tragic loss of civilian lives.
Mirziyoyev highlighted that Uzbekistan sees the "two-state solution" as the only viable path to resolving the Israel-Palestine issue. He stressed the need for peaceful negotiations based on this principle to ensure a lasting resolution.
During his address, the Uzbek leader discussed broader global concerns, pointing to the rising number of conflicts and wars that bring suffering and irreversible loss to humanity. He noted that the world is becoming increasingly divided, with the global economy and trade fragmenting, leading to deepening inequalities and technological gaps. The President also drew attention to the need for reforms in international governance institutions and expanding responsible dialogue within formats such as “South-South” and “North-South” cooperation.
Mirziyoyev emphasized BRICS’ growing role as a significant multilateral partnership. He praised the organization's commitment to equality, sovereignty, and constructive dialogue, stressing its potential to foster a fairer global order. "In today’s challenging geopolitical environment, BRICS stands out as a model of cooperation built on mutual respect, offering a strong foundation for a more just world order," he said.
The President also mentioned Uzbekistan’s active participation in various BRICS initiatives, including the Youth Summit, Sports Games, and high-level security meetings. He outlined Uzbekistan’s intention to strengthen its cooperation with BRICS, particularly in areas such as innovation, digital economy, "green" development, and energy. Mirziyoyev expressed Uzbekistan's interest in joining BRICS’ new projects on artificial intelligence and sustainable development.
Additionally, the President called for greater collaboration on global challenges, such as food and energy security, and highlighted the need for more investment in infrastructure, social development, and poverty reduction in developing nations. Uzbekistan, he noted, is eager to work closely with the BRICS New Development Bank to achieve these goals.
Turning to regional security, Mirziyoyev warned of the threat posed by international terrorism and extremism, emphasizing the importance of preventing radicalization, especially among youth. He also called attention to the crisis in Afghanistan, urging for international efforts to support the country’s development and prevent its isolation.
Mirziyoyev concluded by reaffirming Uzbekistan's commitment to deepening cooperation with BRICS in pursuit of shared goals, particularly in addressing pressing global and regional challenges.
