Gas and power outages announced in Tashkent district amid cold weather
Nearly 43,000 households in Tashkent district will experience a temporary suspension of natural gas supply starting October 30, along with 610 commercial organizations and 41 social facilities. The Tashkent District authorities reported that the gas shutoff is necessary for maintenance work, specifically switching summer diaphragms to winter ones in the gas network. However, no timeline has been provided for when services will be restored.

The planned suspension has led to public frustration and criticism from local experts. Economist Otabek Bakirov questioned the timing of the maintenance, noting the colder temperatures and suggesting the work could have been completed in warmer weather. Bakirov shared his concerns publicly, writing, āWhy would anyone with a rational mind cut off gas for an entire district just as temperatures near freezing? Why not plan these works for milder days, or postpone to a weekend when warmer weather might return?ā
Additionally, Tashkent district residents in specific neighborhoods will face electricity outages from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the same day. The districtās power company explained that the outages in the neighborhoods of Diyor, Kuksaroy, Koraburik, Zaxariq, Bogāizilol, Zarbador, Ezhoz, Koxinur, Yangi Hayot, Urikzor, Oltintepa, and parts of Oqtosh are part of repair work on the Bogāor substationās transformer to prepare for the autumn-winter season. Bakirov emphasized that the water supply could also be affected, as it is dependent on electric pumps.
The timing of these disruptions coincides with a forecast by Uzbekistanās meteorological service, Uzhydromet, predicting light rain, fog in some areas, and temperatures between +2°C and +7°C overnight, rising to between +12°C and +17°C during the day.
