Bukhara to build four textile factories with $320M investment
The Bukhara region of Uzbekistan is set to undergo a transformative economic development plan, with $320 million allocated for constructing four new textile factories. The initiative, aimed at boosting regional industrial capacity, creating jobs, and reducing poverty, was discussed during a critical meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The meeting highlighted the Bukhara region's underperformance relative to its economic potential, citing insufficient progress in attracting investments, reducing poverty, and tackling unemployment. To address these challenges, regional officials, including district governors and sector leaders, will operate in an emergency mode for six months, focusing on these three priority areas.
As part of the strategy, each district in the Bukhara region will specialize in specific industries:
- Peshku and Shafirkan: Building materials and textiles
- Kagan, Alat, and Jondor: Food processing
- Gijduvan and Romitan: Chemical industries
These specializations aim to facilitate $150 million in projects, establish 411 small enterprises, and create 12,000 jobs.
The four textile factories planned for Vabkent, Karakul, Jondor, and Alat will significantly enhance the region’s textile and knitwear production capacity, doubling output and generating 5,000 jobs.
The comprehensive development plan includes:
- Implementing 70 key projects modeled on successful examples from other regions, projected to lift 40,000 people out of poverty and provide income for 150,000 individuals.
- Preparing 20,000 hectares of additional land for agriculture, which will yield 100,000 tons of produce and employ 2,000 people.
- Developing unused pastures to grow pistachios, contributing to the horticulture sector.
- Opening 69 hotels and 2,000 craft shops to accommodate 2.2 million expected foreign tourists in 2025, with projected export revenues of $600 million in tourism services.
The governor of the Bukhara region presented a roadmap for utilizing foreign investments worth $2 billion to implement 106 projects in 2025. These efforts are expected to create 105,000 permanent jobs and boost exports by $350 million.
President Mirziyoyev called for further enhancement of these plans, urging the adoption of a resolution to ensure the success of the proposed initiatives.
