Nearly 6 billion UZS embezzled from salaries and welfare funds in Uzbekistan in 2024
Over the first ten months of 2024, 5.8 billion UZS in salaries and welfare payments were misappropriated in Uzbekistan, the Prosecutor General's Office has reported. Authorities have initiated 71 criminal cases linked to these financial irregularities.

Efforts to strengthen oversight on the misuse of credit funds and address problematic debts have been intensified. As a result, 11.6 trillion UZS of outstanding debts have been recovered, while 8.9 trillion UZS worth of pledged assets were sold to settle liabilities. Additionally, enforcement measures targeted 1.6 trillion UZS in wage deductions to address unpaid debts.
In financial oversight measures, 2.5 trillion UZS was found to have been embezzled, leading to the initiation of 906 criminal cases against bank and corporate executives.
Special attention has been given to monitoring construction and renovation projects under the 2024 Investment Program. Efforts to ensure quality and proper use of funds revealed 61.2 billion UZS worth of substandard work and 82.1 billion UZS in inflated costs. These irregularities were promptly addressed, preventing further violations.
Legal action has been taken against individuals involved in misconduct. Of those implicated, 466 individuals faced disciplinary measures, 1,854 were held administratively accountable, and 262 criminal cases were initiated for serious violations. These efforts have helped recover 71 billion UZS in damages inflicted on the state.
