Gas station explosion sparks outrage: Fergana residents demand action
Following the gas station explosion, movement on the street passing near the gas station was restricted, and the area was cordoned off. Residents living near the gas station were told that gas was still leaking, forcing people to leave their homes. This has caused significant hardship for the residents. “The gas station has brought disaster upon us, there are many affected,” said residents interviewed by Kun.uz.
The explosion in Fergana caused severe damage. The Kun.uz reporter visited the site the day after the incident and spoke with witnesses.
According to reports, the day after the incident, traffic was restricted on the road passing in front of the gas station.
“We protested when the gas station was being built, but they didn’t listen to us. Now, ordinary people are bearing the brunt of it. People have died. Our homes have been destroyed.
Even after the explosion, they are forcing us out of our homes into the cold, claiming that gas is still leaking. Our homes have been cut off from gas, so we can’t cook. We’re too scared to turn on the electricity. Young children are wandering in the streets during this freezing winter. The gas station has brought disaster upon the residents. We ask our government to move all gas stations in the city away from residential areas to prevent such terrible incidents from happening again,” said a resident of the affected area.
The resident added that the local population is experiencing stress, with the incident having a particularly severe impact on young children.
The explosion on December 17 resulted in the death of four people, including children.
Kun.uz confirmed that the exploded station belonged to individuals associated with Akmalkhuja Mavlonov, Chairman of the Customs Committee.
