91 lives lost in Tashkent road accidents in 2024

Tashkent recorded 1,280 road traffic accidents in 2024, according to a report from the Council of People's Deputies of the city.

The data reveals that 1,189 individuals were injured in these accidents, while 91 people tragically lost their lives. Of the total number of accidents, 720 were caused by pedestrian negligence, and 98 resulted from speeding.

The deputies have assigned the city’s Traffic Police Department several key tasks to improve road safety. The department is to compile a list of streets and intersections that do not meet traffic infrastructure standards and send recommendations to the responsible organizations to address these issues. They are also tasked with identifying accident-prone areas involving pedestrians and implementing additional measures to significantly reduce fatalities, taking into account both vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns in the city.

Furthermore, the Traffic Police Department is expected to acquire 10 mobile photo enforcement devices using additional funds from Tashkent's budget.

Additionally, plans are in place to install 12 pedestrian crossings with speed bumps on various streets and roads across the capital.
