Workplace accidents claim 137 lives in Uzbekistan in H1 2026

A total of 447 workplace accidents were recorded in Uzbekistan during the first six months of 2026, leaving 137 workers dead and hundreds more injured, according to the Labor Inspectorate.

The inspectorate said the incidents occurred between January and June. Of the total, 21 involved groups of workers, while 311 were classified as serious accidents. Another 113 workplace accidents resulted in fatalities.

Overall, 494 workers were affected by workplace accidents during the reporting period. Among them, 337 sustained serious injuries and 20 suffered minor injuries, while 137 lost their lives.

According to the Labor Inspectorate, compensation totaling UZS 10.376 billion was awarded to victims and their families in the form of lump-sum payments and monthly compensation.

The industrial sector recorded the highest number of workplace accidents, with 144 cases, followed by the construction sector with 127.

Regionally, Tashkent reported the largest number of affected workers, accounting for 95 recorded cases.
