President Mirziyoyev expressed his sympathy to the Spanish people and the families and relatives of those killed, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The accident occurred near Urda station on the high-speed line connecting Madrid and Seville. One train struck another that had stopped on the tracks, causing several carriages to derail and plunge down an embankment.
At least 68 people were killed, while dozens were injured in the crash.
The cause of the accident has not been conclusively established. Initial reports pointed to a possible failure in the railway signaling and safety systems, while investigators were examining the circumstances surrounding the trains' movements.
