Fergana airport temporarily closed after Russian plane’s wheel detaches
On March 12, a Boeing 737-800 operated by Russia’s S7 Airlines, which had flown from Novosibirsk on flight S7-5561, became stranded on the runway of Fergana International Airport.
According to Aviatorshchina, after landing, while taxiing on the runway, the outer wheel of the right main landing gear detached. The aircraft commander immediately stopped the plane and called engineering and technical staff for assistance. Upon inspection, it was discovered that several bolts securing the wheel were missing.
Following the incident, passengers were disembarked onto the runway and transported to the airport terminal along with their luggage. The Boeing 737 was grounded and later towed to the apron after a few hours.
Due to the blockage of the airport’s only runway, Fergana Airport was temporarily closed. As a result, a Boeing 737 operated by Utair, which had flown from Vnukovo to Fergana, was forced to divert and land at Tashkent Airport.

S7 Airlines has reportedly sent a backup aircraft from Novosibirsk to operate the return flight from Uzbekistan.
