Shavkat Mirziyoyev pardons 488 convicts
Seventeen of the pardoned individuals are foreign nationals, while five were involved in activities of banned organizations.
On the eve of Ramadan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree titled "On Pardoning a Group of Individuals Serving Sentences Who Have Sincerely Repented and Chosen the Path of Reform."
According to the decree, in line with Article 109, Clause 23 of Uzbekistan’s Constitution, a total of 488 convicts who had sincerely repented and demonstrated a commitment to rehabilitation were granted clemency.
Among them:
- 100 individuals were fully released from their sentences.
- 268 individuals were conditionally released before completing their sentences.
- 34 individuals had their prison sentences replaced with lighter penalties.
- 86 individuals had their sentences reduced.
The pardoned individuals include:
- 17 foreign nationals
- 37 women
- 37 men over 60 years old
- 167 young people, including one minor
- 5 individuals involved in banned organizations
To ensure the effective implementation of the decree, relevant ministries and agencies have been tasked with assisting the pardoned individuals in reintegrating into society, reuniting with their families, engaging in productive work, and adopting a healthy lifestyle to secure a respectable place in the community.
