The creation of the Tashkent State Medical University is part of a presidential decree aimed at improving the system for training medical personnel in Uzbekistan.
According to the decree:
- The Urgench branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy will be transformed into an independent Urgench State Medical Institute.
- The following institutions will also be renamed:
- The multi-specialty clinic of the Tashkent Medical Academy, the clinics of the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and the Tashkent State Dental Institute will become the clinics of Tashkent State Medical University;
- The Termiz and Chirchiq branches of the Tashkent Medical Academy will become branches of the new university;
- The academic lyceums affiliated with the three original institutions will become the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd academic lyceums of the Tashkent State Medical University.
A key focus of the new university will be to align its medical education programs with international standards, implementing competency-based curricula in medical training.
Additionally, the university is designated to become a leading higher education institution for training, retraining, and professional development of highly qualified specialists and researchers in the medical field.
Student admissions to the new university will begin in the 2025/2026 academic year. From that year onward, all current students of the three former institutions will continue their education at Tashkent State Medical University. Graduating students will receive degrees issued by the new university in accordance with established procedures.
Starting from the same academic year, separate master's degree groups will gradually be introduced, with instruction provided in foreign languages.
Specialized medical centers and healthcare facilities in Tashkent will be designated as clinical practice bases for students of the university.
The university's structure will also include the Tashkent State Medical University Development Fund, which will be financed by sponsorships and donations.
