According to the Ministry of Health, the payments cover damages awarded to families whose children were harmed after taking the medicines. Under enforcement documents issued by the Tashkent City Criminal Court, a total of UZS 82 billion was to be recovered for 90 victims.
Only UZS 16.8 billion, about 20% of the total, had been paid before the latest allocation. The process had stalled for years because the sale of property seized from those convicted took longer than expected.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed officials to accelerate the payment of full compensation for material and moral damages suffered by the families, the ministry said.
Of the UZS 80 billion paid so far, UZS 72.2 billion has gone to the families of 72 children who died, while UZS 7.8 billion has been paid to the families of 16 children who received or are still receiving medical treatment.
The remaining UZS 2 billion is due to the families of two children once technical issues involving their bank cards are resolved, completing the planned compensation payments to all 90 victims.
The UZS 65.2 billion advanced from the state budget will be reimbursed to the treasury using proceeds from the sale of property belonging to those convicted and other funds recovered from them.
The Ministry of Health and other government agencies are also working with doctors from national medical centers to visit affected families and arrange additional medical and psychological support for the children, the ministry said.
