Customs authorities in Tashkent and Navoi seize 2 billion UZS worth of smuggled gold
A citizen attempted to smuggle jewelry into the country with the help of passengers traveling on the same flight from Abu Dhabi. Another case of illegal gold bullion smuggling was uncovered in Navoi.
During an operation conducted by officers of the Anti-Smuggling Department of the Tashkent-Aero Specialized Customs Complex, an attempt to illegally import jewelry was foiled.
Specifically, a citizen arriving from Abu Dhabi was found to be carrying jewelry weighing 226 grams, with an estimated value of 610 million UZS.
The individual was detained by operational officers outside Tashkent International Airport at the moment he was collecting jewelry belonging to him, which had been brought by other passengers on the same flight, and loading it into a vehicle.
Customs inspections are ongoing regarding this incident.
Additionally, during a customs check at the Navoi border customs post, a pedestrian with suspicious behavior was inspected.
During the search, gold bullion weighing a total of 1,028 grams was discovered on the individual’s body. The bullion was valued at 1.312 billion UZS.
A criminal case has been initiated in connection with this incident, and an investigation is underway.
