Government extends airfare support to all resident carriers on local routes
Private airlines in Uzbekistan will now be eligible to receive government subsidies covering 25% of ticket prices for domestic routes, just like state-owned carriers. However, the duration of the subsidy scheme remains unchanged and will continue only until the end of this year.
Under a government resolution signed on May 7, special tariffs and subsidy rates previously available only to Uzbekistan Airways will now be extended to all resident airlines operating domestic flights.
Subsidizing domestic air routes began in 2021. According to the scheme, carriers operating flights on routes deemed socially significant receive a subsidy from the national budget amounting to 25% of the ticket price.
A Special Commission has been established to oversee and authorize subsidy-related matters.
The current subsidy policy is valid through January 1, 2026.
During a government meeting on May 2, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that 95% of domestic flights were operated by UzAirways and Silk Avia, while the remaining 14 routes were served by four other domestic airlines. It was at that meeting that the decision to extend the subsidies to all resident companies was announced.
According to the 2025 state budget, 63.7 billion UZS have been allocated to compensate part of the ticket prices for domestic flights.
