Asian Weightlifting Championships: Akbar Juraev secures three gold medals
Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Akbar Juraev claimed three gold medals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in the 109 kg category, outperforming his compatriot Sharofiddin Amriddinov, who took silver. The bronze medal went to Jang Yong-hak of South Korea.
Representing Uzbekistan, Olympic champion Akbar Juraev won three gold medals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships held in Jianshang, China, competing in the men’s 109 kg category. He lifted 183 kg in the snatch, 223 kg in the clean and jerk, and achieved a total of 406 kg.
According to the Weightlifting Federation, this tournament marked Juraev’s first official appearance since the Paris Olympic Games.
The silver medal was secured by another Uzbek athlete, Sharofiddin Amriddinov, with a total lift of 395 kg (181 kg snatch + 214 kg clean and jerk). Bronze went to Jang Yong-hak of South Korea, who totaled 390 kg (178 kg + 212 kg).
As of May 14, athletes from Uzbekistan have earned a total of 3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals at the championship.
