Uzbekistan appoints its first ambassador to Sri Lanka

Uzbekistan’s newly appointed ambassador to Sri Lanka, Alisher Tukhtaev, whose official residence is located in Islamabad, has handed over copies of his credentials to Rohana Ambagolla, Chief of State Protocol of Sri Lanka, according to a report by the “Dunyo” Information Agency.

At the beginning of the meeting, Rohana Ambagolla expressed sincere gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for appointing its first-ever ambassador to Sri Lanka. He emphasized that this decision is a significant political step toward strengthening friendly relations between the two countries and will give new momentum to their bilateral cooperation.

Sri Lanka reaffirmed its openness to developing a new format of cooperation with Uzbekistan and highly appreciated President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiatives aimed at closer engagement with the Global South, enhancing food security, and strengthening regional connectivity.

The Sri Lankan official expressed confidence that Alisher Tukhtaev’s activities in Colombo would lay a strong foundation for systematic and effective cooperation across all areas.

It was specifically noted that Sri Lanka is interested in rapidly expanding practical cooperation with Uzbekistan in all sectors, especially in trade, logistics, education, and tourism.
