Kyrgyzstan sees fastest acceleration in GDP growth across Central Asia

Kyrgyzstan recorded the fastest economic growth among Central Asian countries in the first half of 2025, with its gross domestic product (GDP) increasing by 11.7%.
This growth rate was the highest in the region. Tajikistan ranked second with 8.1% GDP growth, followed by Uzbekistan, whose economy expanded by 7.2% during the same period.
Turkmenistan posted a 6.3% growth rate, while Kazakhstan’s GDP increased by 6.2%.
In terms of growth acceleration compared to the same period in 2024, Kyrgyzstan again led the region. Its GDP growth rate was 3.6 percentage points higher than last year. Kazakhstan followed, where the growth rate sped up by 3 percentage points. Tajikistan’s growth accelerated by 1.9 percentage points, and Uzbekistan’s by 0.6 percentage points.
Despite its slower growth, Kazakhstan remains the largest economy in the region. In 2024, the country’s GDP was estimated at nearly $288 billion, translating to over $14,000 per capita. Uzbekistan has the second-largest economy, with a 2024 GDP estimated at $115 billion – about $3,092 per capita.
In terms of trade, Uzbekistan’s largest neighboring partner in the first half of 2025 was Kazakhstan, with bilateral trade totaling $2.2 billion. Trade volumes with other neighbors during the same period were as follows: Turkmenistan – $464.1 million, Kyrgyzstan – $430.2 million, and Tajikistan – $322.3 million.
