Uzbekistan introduces stricter exit rules for crime suspects
Uzbekistan has tightened exit rules for suspects, defendants, or persons on trial who are not held in custody but are considered likely to leave the country and evade court proceedings without valid reasons.
A prosecutor, investigator, or inquiry officer issues a ruling to petition for a temporary restriction on the right to leave Uzbekistan, setting out the grounds for applying this measure.
The petition materials are reviewed in a closed court session no later than eight hours after submission.
After examining the petition, the judge issues a decision either imposing a temporary restriction on the right to leave Uzbekistan or denying the request. The decision may be appealed or protested within 48 hours.
The law entered into force on the date of its official publication.
