SSS prevents large-scale drug smuggling attempt
Officers of the State Security Service (SSS), together with Border Troops and internal affairs bodies, conducted a series of special operations in Surkhandarya, Tashkent, and Fergana regions. As a result, 79.7 kg of narcotics were seized.
In Surkhandarya region, two local residents aged 18 and 19 were detained with more than 20 kg of opium and about 42 kg of hashish, which had been smuggled in from Tajikistan. Later, two more suspects were arrested, including the alleged organizer.
In Tashkent region, SSS officers stopped a resident of Fergana who had entered from Kazakhstan. Nearly 8 kg of mephedrone were discovered in his luggage, hidden inside marble tiles. According to investigators, the drugs had arrived from Moscow and were intended for a customer in Urta-Chirchik, who was also detained.
In Fergana region, in the city of Kokand, a 60-year-old woman and her son, previously convicted of drug trafficking, were arrested. Authorities seized nearly 9 kg of opium and hashish, which had been brought in from Afghanistan.
Criminal cases have been opened in all instances under Articles 246 (“Smuggling”) and 273 (“Illegal circulation of narcotic drugs”) of the Criminal Code. All detainees have been placed in custody.
