Uzbekistan moves to tighten penalties for illegal possession of cold weapons
In the lower chamber of the Senate, a draft law developed by a group of deputies under the right of legislative initiative has been approved. The bill is aimed at creating a safe environment and preventing offenses at an early stage.
According to officials, in recent years there has been a sharp increase in cases of illegally carrying cold weapons in public places. This trend poses a serious threat to public safety, citizens’ peaceful lives, and law and order.
The draft law introduces stricter liability for repeat offenders in such cases. It also proposes to prohibit individuals convicted of domestic violence from obtaining weapons and to establish procedures for temporarily confiscating weapons from those who have committed violence against children.
Another important amendment concerns the treatment of individuals suffering from narcological disorders. Under the draft law, even those who have been held administratively liable once may be sent for treatment by a court decision.
The legislation is intended to prevent future offenses, stabilize the criminogenic situation in local communities, and ensure stronger protection of citizens’ lives and health.
The draft law was adopted by deputies in the first reading.
