High-speed electric trains to link Tashkent with Tashkent region
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the effectiveness of ongoing reforms and new plans in Tashkent region.
At the meeting, the president tasked officials with connecting all districts of Tashkent region to the capital by high-speed electric trains. This, he noted, will increase demand for new housing, infrastructure, and services, while enabling residents to commute to Tashkent for work on a daily basis.
In addition, vacant land in Tashkent region will be transferred to the management of Toshkent Invest and the city’s Directorate of Industrial Zones. Environmentally harmful enterprises will be relocated outside the capital.
Plans also include the construction of two substations to support industrial enterprises with foreign investment in the cities of Nurafshan, Almalyk, and Chirchik. In Bekabad, a facility producing import-substituting auto parts will be established. In Akkurgan district, new enterprises in the food and textile industries will be launched. Along the Karasu canal, which flows through the Akhangaran, Angren, and Urtachirchik districts, tourist and trade complexes will be developed.
“Tashkent region has the greatest potential in both industry and agriculture. The key is that it surrounds the capital, which is the country’s largest consumer market for goods and services. This is a tremendous opportunity. By fully utilizing it, we can multiply indicators for investment, exports, and job creation,” Mirziyoyev emphasized.
Overall, investment projects worth $2.5 billion have been developed in the region. Their implementation will provide employment for more than 11,000 people and generate an export potential of $434 million.
