Uzbekistan to tighten accountability for protecting children from violence
Cases of violence against children are on the rise in Uzbekistan, according to Mansurbek Olloyorov, director of the National Agency for Social Protection.
Between January and August 2025, a total of 2,872 minors were victims of various crimes, including 1,225 children under the age of 12 – accounting for 42.7 percent of all cases. Olloyorov shared the figures during a briefing.
Analysis shows that 1,475 of the victims were affected by crimes posing low social danger, 956 by less serious crimes, 284 by serious crimes, and 157 by especially serious crimes.
“Unfortunately, cases of violence against children are increasing. Victims are often blamed or forced to remain silent. We must fight against this culture of silence as firmly as we fight against violence itself,” Olloyorov said.
He noted that the number of calls to the agency’s hotline has tripled compared to last year and continues to grow.
According to Olloyorov, measures are being taken to tighten liability for crimes committed via the internet, and teachers and educators will now be held accountable for failing to fulfill their responsibilities to protect children.
