Cost of living in Tashkent: How much do you need for a comfortable lifestyle?

A family of four in Tashkent needs around UZS 23 million per month to live comfortably, while a single person requires nearly UZS 6.5 million. Dining at an inexpensive restaurant in the Uzbek capital costs about UZS 60,000, whereas a meal for two at a mid-range restaurant is estimated at UZS 450,000. The annual tuition for one child at an internationally recognized private school exceeds UZS 123 million.

According to Numbeo, one of the world’s largest online databases, a four-person household in Tashkent can live well without paying rent by spending roughly UZS 23,043,000 per month. For a single person, this figure is around UZS 6,440,000.

In terms of dining, a meal at a budget restaurant costs UZS 60,000 per person, while fast-food meals average UZS 50,000 UZS. The average prices of basic food items include: 1 liter of milk – UZS 14,000, 1 kg of rice – UZS 21,500, 12 eggs – UZS 19,500, 1 kg of beef – UZS 119,000, 1 kg of chicken fillet – UZS 50,500, 1 kg of apples – UZS 15,000, 1 kg of bananas – UZS 21,800, 1 kg of tomatoes – UZS 15,400, 1 kg of potatoes – UZS 6,800, and 1 kg of onions – UZS 4,400.

Household utility costs and clothing expenses are also included. For an 85-square-meter apartment, residents pay between UZS 300,000 and UZS 1,275,000 for water, gas, electricity, and waste management. Mobile phone services average UZS 46,000 per month, while cable internet costs about UZS 139,000.

Private kindergartens charge UZS 2.5–6.1 million, while tuition at international private schools exceeds UZS 123 million annually per child.

Numbeo’s data shows that monthly expenses are typically divided as follows: 27.9% on groceries, 29.9% on rent, 14.6% on dining out, 9.8% on transportation, and 7.8% on sports and leisure activities.

Average monthly income

The Numbeo database also provides average net salaries for 127 countries. Excluding taxes, Uzbek citizens earn an average of $499 per month, placing Uzbekistan 85th among the 127 countries.

At the top of the ranking are Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Ireland. Other countries in the region include Turkey (55th), Russia (63rd), Kazakhstan (82nd), Azerbaijan (90th), Kyrgyzstan (95th), and Tajikistan (108th).
