Nearly 300 people convicted for domestic violence in Uzbekistan over eight months
The number of citizens held administratively and criminally responsible for sexual harassment and domestic violence in Uzbekistan has been reported.
According to the Criminal Court panel of Tashkent city, in the first eight months of this year, 298 people were tried under Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code (domestic violence), with 81 sentenced to imprisonment. For comparison, in the entire 2024, 472 individuals were convicted under the same article, 150 of whom received actual prison terms.
Under Article 59-2 of the Code on Administrative Liability (domestic violence), 7,624 people have been held administratively responsible since the start of the year, compared with 16,524 in 2024. Of these, 6,585 were placed in administrative detention.
Under Article 41-1 of the Criminal Code (sexual harassment), 1,450 people were tried during the same period. Of these, 969 received administrative detention and 481 were fined. During the same period last year, the figure was 1,854.
The report also notes that since the beginning of the year, 47 civil petitions have been filed with the courts seeking divorce due to domestic violence, 37 of which have been granted. This indicates that in four out of five cases, domestic violence leads to the breakdown of families.
