The opening ceremony was attended by the governor of Fergana region, Khayrullo Bazarov, and Uzbekistan’s ambassador to South Korea, Alisher Abdusalomov. The complex will be used to supply food and textile products from Fergana to the South Korean market.
The initiative to create the center was proposed by three young entrepreneurs from Fergana – Abduvohid Kodirov, Javohir Valiev, and Muhammadsaid Khodjayev. The total cost of the project amounted to about $6 million.
Koreta imports food products to South Korea from 17 countries, including Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Poland, and Italy, among others. According to the regional administration, the company also operates a dairy plant in Kazakhstan and textile factories in Uzbekistan.
In April, a wholesale distribution center called Fruitcity opened in Russia’s Omsk region to handle fruits and vegetables from Fergana. The first phase of construction cost $833 million, with three stages of development planned in total.
