Uzbekistan eases criminal liability for minors under new legal amendments
Those punished for crimes committed before turning 18 will no longer have criminal records.
Criminal liability for minors is being liberalized through amendments and additions to the Criminal Code, the Ministry of Justice reported.
According to the changes, individuals who have served their sentences for crimes committed before reaching the age of 18 will no longer be considered as having a criminal record.
Exceptions apply to cases involving particularly serious crimes or when a person, after serving a sentence for an earlier offense, commits another intentional crime before turning 18.
At the same time, the minimum terms of restriction of liberty and imprisonment for minors have been reduced from six months to one month.
The law will take effect from the date of its official publication.
