Interior Ministry: 18 officers died while on duty in six months
Eighteen officers of internal affairs bodies have been killed while performing their duties since the beginning of 2026, while another 78 were injured during operations to respond to dangerous situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.
The figures were presented by Deputy Interior Minister Ramazon Ashrapov during a press conference dedicated to the ministry's performance in the first half of the year.
According to the ministry, police officers provided security for more than 70 million participants at approximately 125,000 public events during the reporting period.
The ministry also reported a decline in preventable crime. A total of 14,342 such crimes were recorded in the first six months of the year, down by 2,309 cases compared with the same period in 2025.
Crimes committed by women fell by 27.7%, while offenses involving young people declined by 25.7%. Crimes committed by previously convicted individuals dropped by 6.9%, and those committed by unemployed citizens decreased by 30.8%.
At the same time, law enforcement officers uncovered 19,755 crimes through proactive policing, an increase of 31% compared with the first half of last year.
The ministry said 8,653 criminal cases were opened in connection with illegal drug trafficking. Authorities seized 2 tonnes and 733 kilograms of prohibited substances, including more than 52 kilograms of synthetic drugs, as well as 2.651 million units of potent pharmaceutical products.
Operational units also apprehended 5,010 individuals who had been evading investigation or trial. In addition, 2,633 missing persons were located and reunited with their families.
According to the ministry, no crimes were recorded in 5,778 neighborhoods during the first half of the year, accounting for 64% of all neighborhoods nationwide. Another 2,738 neighborhoods (30.4%) were classified as "yellow" zones, while 476 (5.3%) were designated as "red" zones based on crime levels.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs received more than 200,000 public appeals during the reporting period. Of the 184,393 applications submitted to regional internal affairs bodies, 146,170 were resolved positively, while 14,623 were settled through the provision of legal explanations.
The ministry also reported that its officers refused bribes on 136 occasions since the beginning of the year, with each incident reported in accordance with established procedures.
