Rustam Kasimjanov to lead Uzbekistan’s national chess team
International Grandmaster and 2004 FIDE World Champion Rustam Kasimjanov has been appointed head coach of Uzbekistan’s national chess team.
According to the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan, his main tasks include consolidating the national team’s stable performance on the international stage, establishing a modern training system for young players, and ensuring high-quality preparation for major tournaments.
Rustam Kasimjanov was born in 1979 in Tashkent. He achieved a sensational victory at the 2004 FIDE World Chess Championship and has been awarded the honorary title “Pride of Uzbekistan” as well as the Order of Amir Temur.
From 2008 to 2012, Kasimjanov served as second coach to Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand during the World Chess Championship cycles, contributing to Anand’s victories.
