Uzbekistan and Qatar to deepen strategic partnership
During a meeting in Doha, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, agreed to strengthen strategic partnership, expand bilageral trade and investment projects, and promote new areas of cooperation.
At the start of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev congratulated the Emir on the successful organization of the Second World Summit for Social Development. The sides noted that dialogue and exchanges at various levels are steadily continuing.
It was reported that since the beginning of the year, bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Qatar has increased by 45 percent. Major investment projects are being implemented with the participation of leading Qatari companies, while parliamentary, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation is also growing.
The talks placed particular emphasis on expanding cooperation in the following key areas:
• joint projects in “green” energy and renewable sources;
• transport and logistics, modernization and expansion of infrastructure;
• cooperation in geology and resource development;
• joint production capacities and export cooperation in the textile industry;
• diversification of tourism products and destinations.
The sides also exchanged views on current international and regional issues of mutual interest. It was noted that the outcomes of the meeting would help elevate the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Qatar to a qualitatively new level.
