Uzbekistan to double salaries for nurses with higher education
During a meeting with medical and pharmaceutical workers on November 10, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to train a new generation of nurses who will not only perform routine procedures but also assist doctors in diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care.
To achieve this, the Nursing Academy will be transferred under the authority of the Tashkent State Medical University and transformed into the Higher Professional Medical Academy. Starting next year, the academy will launch degree-level nursing programs in partnership with universities from the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Beginning in 2026, all medical universities in Uzbekistan will open a “Higher Nursing Practice” program, with admission quotas doubled. From 2027 onward, the quotas will increase by at least 20% annually. In the coming years, the share of nurses with higher education is expected to reach 10%.
The president noted that nurses with higher education – who work alongside doctors and play a key role in patient care – will receive due recognition and incentives. Starting next year, their salaries will include a 100% bonus.
The system for training nurses with secondary medical education will also be reformed. In cooperation with the British company Pearson, international-standard nursing programs have already started in one technical college in each region. Additionally, curricula from countries such as Germany, Switzerland, and the United States will be introduced. Through these initiatives, Uzbekistan aims to develop a corps of nurses who meet international standards and possess foreign language proficiency.
