Over 62,000 consumers cut off from water supply in Uzbekistan due to unpaid debts
More than 62,000 households and businesses across Uzbekistan have been disconnected from the water supply this year due to unpaid debts, with the majority of cases concentrated in Tashkent, according to data released by the city’s water supply company.
From January to October 2025, a total of 62,400 consumers were cut off nationwide, including 46,000 cases in Tashkent, which alone accounted for 70 percent of all disconnections, the Tashkent Water Supply JSC press service reported.
During the same period, monitoring teams identified 4,351 cases of illegal connections to drinking water or sewage systems. The highest numbers were recorded in:
- Tashkent – 488 cases
- Syrdarya region – 433 cases
- Karakalpakstan – 425 cases
- Khorezm region – 419 cases
Preliminary estimates show that these violations caused over UZS 82 billion in damage to the water supply system. Of this amount, UZS 33.6 billion has been recovered so far.
To reduce outstanding debts, authorities filed 123,400 claims worth UZS 358.4 billion against indebted consumers in civil and economic courts this year.
As a result of these measures, total consumer debt has fallen by UZS 203 billion, or 22 percent, since the beginning of the year, reaching UZS 705.5 billion. Compared to the same period last year, the debt level dropped by UZS 364 billion, or 34 percent.
